BeMA USA and the Middle East Institute (MEI) co-organized a panel conversation on the changing social and cultural significance of museums in Lebanon, and more broadly in the Middle East. Key topics addressed how they seek to move beyond their traditional role as authorities in the arts to become more relevant to the cultural and socio-economic concerns of communities at a local, regional, and international level.

Glenn Lowry, Director of the Museum of Modern Art(MoMA ), Peggy Loar, President of International Museum Planning Consultants and founding Director of the new National Museum of Qatar, and Taline Boladian, Member of BeMA USA, were brought together at the Middle East Institute in Washington D.C. on Monday, April 29 to reflect on the future of museums in the Middle East. NPR Art Desk Reporter Neda Ulaby moderated the conversation.
